Kirsan The Circus Master

Citing this interview with FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov Aussie GM Ian Rogers, in his column for the Sun Herald today, makes an amusing observation. He writes:

Chess fans had been hoping for a serious match between the two world champions, both approaching peak form. However, Kalmyk and [FIDE] president Iljumzhinov seem[s] determined to turn the event into a circus.

We agree with Ian Rogers.
