September this year could be a busy time for Aussie and Kiwi chess fans with a tournament in Malaysia and an international open in the Solomon Islands.
I've just heard from Peter Long that the KL Open Chess Championships will be held from 3 to 8 September later this year. While the venue hasn't been finalised, it looks like the time control will be 90 + 30s from move 1. The tournament prospectus cites www.klchess.com as a source of info, but, unhappily, that site seems to be unavailable!
Also in September will be the 2009 Solomon Islands International Chess Championships. This one is organised by none other than Oceania Zone boss, Aussie Gary Bekker. Should be fun!

August might be even better - the KL Open comes straight after the much bigger and richer Malaysian Open, running from 21-31 August, with a team rapid tournament after the main Open.
