SMH on "Gormallygate"

It was only a matter of time before an Australian press got in on the act. First off the mark is the Sydney Morning Herald. Oh, and that main photo is by yours truly.

SMH: Chess beauty triggers 'Gormallygate'

EDIT (7 Jun, 4.08PM AEST): The SMH has since replaced the main photo with one of Arianne's glamour shots.

EDIT (7 Jun, 4.25PM AEST): Further updates by the SMH with quotes from ex-ACF boss Graeme Gardiner and Arianne's mother, Annette.

I thought that photo was yours when I looked through the flickr account. You get paid for that shot, or was it a freebie?

And the SMH have edited in her mum's comments now too. Aronian is a lovely gentleman and he and Arianne are actually 'an item'!

hmm ... mum sure knows who's good for her daughter! when's the wedding, heh?

I believe you will find that is a misquote. haha.

Pity, could have improved her chess alot if it was true.

Surely people with some intelligence are reading this, and of course the smart chess players, whether GM's or not, know very well how media misquotes, and with all media attention comes both negative and positive. The whole thing is really very funny, at least people can see a different side of chess. Never mind the papers quotes, what is the truth, what did Arianne's mum really say? Why not ask her, she knows what's going on. Aronian is the superstar, Gormally poor guy made a move he will regret for life, the papers should leave him alone, and Arianne is the good looking girl that spices up the whole story, without the three of them there would be no scandal or news about chess!

anyone intelligent especially chess players,GM'S or not, know that media is both negative and positive. Misquotes are a part of news stories. If you want the truth, and what Mum really said, or thinks, why don't you ask her she knows what's going on. The whole thing is so funny. At least chess has a different side to it than just the board, gets the world outside of chess interested. Without the three of them, Aronian the real superstar of chess, Gormally the poor British guy who will live to regret his worst move ever, and the good looking girl Arianne, there would be no story or scandal to write about chess, that people can enjoy, laugh at, critize,or find interesting for a change. That's what chess needed, so have fun with it, stop being so hung up and serious, the papers should leave poor Gormally alone.
