Russian Bags Doeberl

Some guy named Andrei Deviatkin has won the 2011 Doeberl Cup, scoring 7.5 and winning the thing outright. Never heard of this bloke and, to be quite honest, there was nothing much that impressed me about his play.

The one game that made me think to myself, "what the f**k", was the awful round 6 outing by WIM Arianne Caoili against FM Bobby Cheng. Cheng made her look like a beginner.

Actually Arianne had a very good tournament, especially given the schedule she played (She was unable to play rounds 1&2 and 9, which the organisers were aware of before she entered). She had a PR of 2355 and drew with GM Darryl Johansen.

You picked her only lost game where she fell into an opening trap.

There were many brilliant games in Doeberl, to publish only 1 that had a rather obvious outcome by the first few moves is an injustice to many of the attacking and interesting games played.

Andrei Deviatkin worked with Alex Baburin at Chess Today. Not long, but he did.

According to this - http://closetgrandmaster.blogspot.com/2006/11/pinoy-player-under-suspicion.html - I think that the blogger isn't accurate on purpose, saying that he doesn't know (a bloke named) Deviatkin. Revenge for the article?
By the way, to be quite honest, there was nothing much that impressed me about this blog as well.
