Chess In, Mosque Out

I thought maybe my mates over at Chessdom.com were joking when they sent an email with the headline sentence, "FIDE has requested the New York authorities to sell the land of the Twin Towers to create a chess center". But a quick google tells me that it's all real, at least as far as some PR release is concerned. Now I happen to think that the planned mosque near Ground Zero, which has attracted so much controversy, is a questionable idea, so I reckon the chess centre might just be a happy compromise.
