It's not really new news as it was highly expected, but FM Manuel Weeks has just been officially announced by the ACF as the captain of the Aussie men's Olympiad team. I have lost count as to the number of times that he's held that post for the Olympiad squad. Anyone know? In any case, the players love him and, based on my own first-hand observation, he does a good job.
Also announced in the latest ACF newsletter is the appointment of IM Leonid Sandler as captain of the women's crew. The Melburnian replaces IM Andras Toth in that position. Again, a good choice.
Here are the final selections one more time.
Open Team:
1. GM Zong-Yuan Zhao
2. GM David Smerdon
3. IM George Xie
4. GM Darryl Johansen
5. IM Stephen Solomon
Women's Team:
1. WIM Arianne Caoili
2. Giang Nguyen
3. WIM Biljana Dekic
4. WFM Emma Guo
5. WFM Vaness Reid
If you read the ACF newsletter and wonder why my list for the women's is different, this is because I'm going by the selection coordinator's earlier announcement that IM Irina Berezina pulled out due to family reasons. So the other selectees move one place up.

Manuel Weeks was appointed captain at the 1994 Moscow Olympiad and has been captain ever since with the slight interuption at the 2000 Istanbul Olympiad when Andrew Allen was captain. The 2010 Olympiad will be Manuel's 8th time as captain which surely should be an Australian record.
A mistake written in the acf newsletter. Doesn't even mention Emma Guo.

Yes the correct Womens Team at present is as AR states it to be, with Sarah Anton as reserve.
Yes, that was my fault. I was editing the list after IM Berezina withdrew to re-cap the team and my brain turned "Now move Emma up to Board 4" into "Remove Emma". Apologies for any confusion (but it's good to see that people are watching).
