$10K Boost for SACA

The South Australian Chess Association have recently received sponsorship amounting to $10,000 from the Australian Field Services P/L for that state's Lidums Checkmate Weekender 2007 tournament. As a result, the weekend event has shot up from a class 3 to class 5 with incentives provided to GMs and IMs.

Well done to SACA. Let's hope they can do better with their $10K than the NSWCA who, last year, posted a massive $11K loss.

Surely the rules of affiliation determine whether you have to disclose annual accounts to "members".

I am still trying to fathom how you can lose $3,000 on a regular tournament in NSW.

Do they have to pay exorbitant fees for renting a venue?

Is their prizemoney unrealistic for their size of entries?

Q "Is their prizemoney unrealistic for their size of entries?"

A Yes. Numbers are in free fall.

Q Why?

A NSWCA have stupid event schedules which only suit players who are not in employment.

Q Do they have to pay exorbitant fees for renting a venue?

A No. Is is usually a *free* carpetted conference hall.

Q Where did elevent thousand dollars go last year?

A Into the pockets of event winners.

NSWCA tournaments make a loss because they advertise a prizefund and much less players turn up than expected. But one can not be surprised by this, when the promotion of events is so poor. Also they shafted Jason Lyons, someone skilled in this area, who not only knows how to promote chess tournaments but would probably be able to get sponsorship too. Now, where would a chess player look to find information about this Sunday's NSWCA City of sydney Rapidplay? The NSWCA website, of course. But what is on the NSWCA website about this event which is only 4 days away? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!! Then again, maybe the NSWCA is playing some sort of practical joke on us. After all, this Sunday is April 1st, April Fools Day!!!!!!

Sounds to me ANON that you did not make the journey to the CV AGM held at Croydon late last year.
If you had been there you would have able to get a full set of auditted accounts available to all Club delegates. There is no problem with disclosing them.
Post an e-mail address for yourself here and I will mail you a copy.

OK,so their guaranteed prize funds are unrealistic.

Are they going to set realistic targets this year for prize money?

Or are they going to risk the possibility of losing $11,000 again?

Because while that is very generous,it cant last forever.
