Still Breathin'!

Still breathing over here. Thank God.

Before hauling my ass over to Japan, I was totally aware of their working habits: long hours, sometimes over 6 or 7 days a week. But since I work for a US firm I thought I'd avoid all that. Turns out, I was wrong!

It's not only the marathon feeling of everyday existence, but the sheer pace of it, too. And it is the reason why I've hardly posted at all. Everytime I think of starting a post, there's always work. Pretty damn crazy.

Surprisingly, I can actually keep up with the locals, even outlasting most of them. I didn't think I had it.

Anyway, I think perhaps an OS break should be in order. Peter Long dropped in a couple of days ago and mentioned something about the KL Open. If nothing else, I gotta try out some of that Laksa. As good as Japanese food is, it's pretty boring compared to other Asian cuisine.

Just laksa? Of course there are numerous varieties to sample. But Alex will vouch that I can do much better by you than that alone.

Why not play for the Australian team (Klang Valley Koalas) in the 9-round Merdeka Teams Rapid event in KL 26-28 August 2011. Just after the Malaysian Open and Seniors Championships! Contact Brian Jones on info@chessaustralia.com.au for more details!

Wow. The Malaysian Open must only be for foreign players because locals don't know about it! Well if it is on I could perhaps postpone or even cancel the KL Open.

What is up with the very slow load times at Chess Chat? Are they being hacked or something?

I just wonder how popular is Chess in Japan? Do you know any popular chess sites in Japan where I could get information?

When you say KL Open, I suppose you are referring to the recently concluded Raja Nasrin International Open 2012? Soviet-born Sergei Tiviakov was a deserving winner in an intriguing chess game. I’d like to ask, what’s the difference between the KL Open and the Malaysian Open mentioned by Anonymous in his comment? I guess the next tournament to look forward to might be the World Youth Championship 2012 in Maribor, Slovenia, in November. I’m sure the top woman chess player at the KL Open, Padmini Rout, who is only 18, will be there. I’m surprised you know Peter Long personally, and that he has commented on your blog. I know he is an authority on the KL or Malaysian chess scene. Lastly, as Peter Long had said, there are many more culinary delights to savor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, including the popular, black ‘Hokkien’ noodle. You’ve got to try it!
