Where's the NSWCA AGM?

According to the NSWCA website, the AGM and the state lightning championships will be held tomorrow. Unlike the Victorian AGM, the NSWCA version looks to be a fairly boring affair this year. Probably the only gossip I can share that is midly interesting is that Peter Parr may attempt another try at forming some sort of ticket. I got that from an old mate of mine whom I ran into a couple of days ago. We'll see.

Now if you're wondering where this AGM will be, I can't tell you. The NSWCA website still says 'TBA'.

Does it surprise you? Of course they make it 'TBA' so the bludgers on council can already guarantee themselves another term in office.
Look at the state of NSW Chess lately... apart from private entrepreneurs running tournaments there are sfa running in Sydney lately. Where are the weekenders that used to be around?
Now take a look at the state champs. Postponed games? The arbiter not present at matches? What a shambles it is! No wonder they've got bugger all showing up for it.
So the NSWCA makes a profit? So what? It's a non-profit organisation that collects money off members and can't even keep their website updated properly because they are too busy arguing over who gets the tidbits.
Be thankful that there are people like Brian Jones and Jonathan Adams that organise tournaments independantly, despite the fact that the idea of having a NSWCA is so that they can actively promote chess in NSW. Not by taking membership fees and then participating in technical bulletin board slinging matches.
Most of the council are just 'yes' men that sit on their ass and do nothing...boot them and get someone like Peter Parr who knows what it's really like to organise professional chess.

A notice of meeting for the AGM was posted to all members. The NSWCA webiste shows you as a member so you should have received one.

Peter Parr was elected President at the NSWCA AGM on Saturday. Hopefully things will improve. Problem still remains that the same people are on council so not sure how much clout Peter will have.

Yes that is true. Let's hope Peter will control the dead wood on council and push chess forward in a positive manner.
Of the council so far, I'd keep Parr, Gastineau-Hills, Moylan and Greenwood and boot the rest. What is the point of having a member on council without a portfolio? Give them a proper position or they shouldn't be there.

Perhaps Mr Anonymous should put their hand up to do something on council?!

Wow, Mr Anonymous, you really have no idea. It is clear that you've got no clue of the work that many council members do.

In your council, you want to kick off the secretary & registrar. They have probably the biggest workload out of all the council members! Who is going to do these jobs on your fantasy council?

Certainly not you, you're probably the type that went along to the meeting feeling like a champ, saying, "I'm going to the AGM to support Peter." Then when someone asks you, "Oh, you're volunteering on the council?" You say, "Nah, stuff that, I'm just going along to vote." We should all be sooooo grateful for your hard work, you're a true hero.

I assume you are referring to Brett Tindall, when you say member without portfolio. Brett served as tournaments officer for 2 years, but was too busy to take on this job again - that's why he became member without portfolio. He still wanted to help out in any way he could, even with his limited available time. In his time in this "non"-position, he organised the 2008 NSW Championship (strongest field in a long time) and provided a free venue, and this year has been very vocal in NOT cancelling events, even agreeing to provide a free venue for the City of Sydney and NSW Championship this year, at huge inconvenience to himself. If not for him, these events would not have been able to go ahead at all.

Just because YOU don't have a position in anything and YOU don't do anything to help out, doesn't mean that other (nice) people don't do anything.

I honestly can't believe how stupid your comment was. Maybe you should hide your keyboard from yourself - to prevent yourself from letting it slip that YOU ARE A MORON.

I think the poster is trying to say what is the point of the" "member without portfolio " position. He wasn't having a go at Tindall specifically. However since you have have tried to defend Tindall when he wasn't really attacked it would seem you work for Sydney Chess Academy or are closely related. I would suggest in the future that you dont blow Brett Tindall's trumpet as he is quite capable of blowing his own trumpet with the good deeds he does for chess.

Gosh, aren't you silly. There is only one member without portfolio. Can't get much more personal than singling out one person...

I guess I was just trying to make a point that just because someone doesn't have a title next to their name, doesn't mean they don't do anything. This person really had no idea of the work done by many council members. You might note that I specifically mentioned Peter & Tom (although perhaps you are unaware of who they are - Registrar and Secretary - because they do lots of hard work, without going for the bragging rights of being president). I did make a specific mention of Brett, as he was the only one specifically mentioned as one to get rid of.

I think it's sad that you assume that only someone related to Brett or working for Brett would be appreciative of the time he has volunteered - I guess that says more about you than anyone else. How many other players/spectators from the City of Sydney and NSW Champs this year have noticed the exhausted faces working until around 11pm 2 nights a week to host these events? I just think that when someone works hard for your benefit, you should be grateful, and I am showing that by making sure that misinformed people don't just spout **** when they clearly have absolutely no clue about which people do what work on the council!

You can take the poster's comments as personal, however I was just assuming the poster was saying there is no point to the position and wasn't having a go at Brett personally. I know Brett does alot of work for chess, however he doesnt need you to pat him on the back. Brett has been around for a while and is well respected. Most people know this and I think you jump down the throat of the poster for no reason
