Polgar's Strange Blogging Style

I just don’t get what Susan Polgar’s blog is doing. Is she aggregating content or actually blogging?

Check out this post, this one, and then this one too. Now compare each of those posts to these, respectively: The Otago Daily News, the East Valley Tribune and ChessDom. Notice anything peculiar?

Firstly, why doesn't Susan use the blogger convention of block quotes? Secondly, quoting more than 50% of somebody else's article? C'mon! I'm not saying anything - but to some people, that might actually amount to lifting content.

Do you think she writes any of her blog or her parter Mr Truong does it all?

Regardless, Susan and Paul Truong has the best and most popular blog and most informative blog there is.

I disagree. Their blog is the most worthless and disgraceful chess site on the net.

You must be Danny Sloan ;-)

No offense to CG but the Polgar blot gives more updated information, not only about chess players and events occurring all over the world, but of the Philippine chess players as well.

As a matter of fact Wesley So has been invited by Susan to play in her strong tournament in the U.S. next year.

So where is your worthy and graceful chess site you are talking about Danny boy?

In my opionion you fall little bit for formulative thinking. It seems that in your mind there is convention and Susan Polgars blog is wrong because it doesn't fill the norm. This in my opinion is not argument strong enough to state your case.

For me that blogs role is to feed content to people who are eager to know what is happening in chess. Lot of articles I wouldn't have found otherwise, basically.

I too am a bit irritated, though. I'm not too keen on the way there are lot of questions that people are supposed to discuss, but Susan herself doesn't stake her claim on those discussions.

Regarding who is behind the blog I believe someone else is doing publishing for her and she just steps in once in a while. So I think herself is more editorial or executive than journalistic.

The piece taken from Chessdom doesn't currently appear to carry a link, even though Chessdom is credited. That's a little short of the standard the original source is entitled to expect. So maybe it's not Ms Polgar producing these pieces - it's hard to think somebody with that much experience would omit the link. Or maybe it was just rushed pre-Xmas...

The oldest newspaper in New Zealand - with one of the longest running chess columns around - is called the 'Otago Daily Times' not the "News"

WOW! - What a find!

BTW...Susan Polgar herself gives the links to her sources at the bottom of her Excerpts.

Why shouldn't she post all interesting chess-related stuff on her blog?
I wouldn't have found this article in the Otago Daily Times/News myself, so I'm glad she finds this stuff for me and I can read it on her blog.

Stop accusing/insulting the best chess-blog out there and simply try to do it better...
